In principle, a calibrated pH probe always measures the pH correctly. They do not have the disadvantage - such as test strips - that the pH depends on alkalinity, sampling and / or operator handling (number of droplets - dip time of rods etc ...).

Nevertheless, it is sometimes desirable to test the correctness of the probe.

This certified pH 7.4 buffer has a pH that is certainly = 7.4. 

If the probe measures a pH between 7.2 and 7.6 relative to this buffer, the probe is good for use in swimming pool applications.

In some cases (no bypass available), it is necessary to close the electrode hole during calibration. For this you can purchase a fake probe.
